My Croatian Highlights

The happiest moments of 2020, were when myself and four friends escaped all the craziness for 10 days of blissful happiness in the Croatian sun. Before setting off on this little adventure, we all agreed that we would have a ‘Carpe Diem’ attitude and make the most of every experience. The best day of the trip was hiring a private boat with skipper and spending the day out at sea exploring the quieter unique spots off of mainland Croatia. Below I have outlined our trip and different locations.

Makarska

Our first destination was to the beautiful town of Makarska, where we spent our days sunbathing on the beach and our evenings drinking wine and watching the sunsets. You could spend all your holiday exploring delicious restaurants along the beachfront. It was from here that we rented the boat and skipper and spent the day feeling completely content and free.

Split

The second destination on our trip was to the city of Split. This city has the perfect atmosphere for a group of friends, it is buzzing with people and there are unlimited restaurants and bars to explore. With the beautiful dock you have easy connections to other small islands including Hvar, Brac and Vis. We decided that this location would be perfect to allow us to explore Croatia further without it feeling like we were back packing.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience”

Hvar Island

Hvar is known as the party island of Croatia and although this holiday was primarily for exploring and relaxing, of course we had to visit Havr and have a few too many cocktails. This busy island is where the partying happens and where many young people visit. We spent our day at the Hula Hula, one of the many beach bars on the island, where we swam in the sea, danced to the live music and indulged in food and cocktails.

Brač Island

Brač is best known for the white-pebble beach Zlatni Rat (Golden Cape), a favoured windsurfing site outside the resort town of Bol. The Island’s main town, Supetar, offers a horseshoe-shaped beach which can be easily accessed by ferries from Split. We spent the day soaking up the sun on the Golden Cape beach, where we enjoyed cocktails, the beautiful views and range of delicious food stands. Brač did not disappoint but I wish we had had more time to visit other areas of the island.

Vis Island

This remote island is one of the most unique islands I have ever visited with clear blue waters, small cafes and the cutest island houses. This island has only around 4,000 people living here. Since Mama Mia 2 was filmed here in 2018, tourism has grown and many boat trips now stop off here to allow tourists to get a feel of the magical musical setting. We were the complete cliche tourists and of course were singing ABBA songs whilst arriving by boat to the island. This was one of my favourite memories from the trip and I would recommend finding a boat tour that stops off at Vis.

I can’t wait to return to Croatia and explore more of the stunning views and feel the city buzz again. I would love to return and plan a wedding with a beautiful couple who are looking to tie the knot in this stunning country! Please sign up to receive alerts when I have posted new blogs whether that is weddings, events or travel inspiration.

Thank you,

Lauren xx
